Welcome to Farfield Mill Arts & Heritage Centre
Nestling between the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales, and in the shadow of the glorious Howgill fells, a rescued Farfield Mill opened its doors in April 2001 to an exciting new life as an arts and heritage centre, providing access to high-quality art and crafts and heritage.
This followed extensive refurbishment after Farfield ceased production as a woollen mill in the early 1990s after 156 years of textile production. The Centre is now a favourite visitor attraction for those visiting Sedbergh, the Lakes and the Dales.

As a Registered Charity, we can claim back a 25% tax rebate from the Government on our admission charge, providing you will have paid enough income or capital gains tax during the year. This does not affect your personal tax liability (unless you are a higher rate tax payer, in which case it is more advantageous to you). It helps our finances a great deal if you could Gift Aid your entry fee.
We aim to be as accessible as possible. We offer the following facilities and services to help you make the most of your visit.
The main entrance to the Mill is accessed via a ramp. There is also a lift to all levels and disabled facilities on each floor. Chairs are dotted around the mill for little breaks and to take in the view.
Parking Facilities - Free disabled parking is available adjacent to the Mill.
Wheelchair Access - The Mill has a lift to all floors and there are no steps on any floor. The Mill also provides a wheelchair on site for visitors to use.
Toilets - Level access toilets are available on all floors.
Assistance Dogs - Guide dogs and hearing dogs are welcome.
Suggestions on ways to improve these facilities are always welcome.
How to Find Us
We are situated on the A684 Garsdale to Hawes Road just one mile east of Sedbergh where there is ample free parking.
Approaching from the M6:
Leave at Junction 37 and drive five miles through stunning Howgills landscape to Sedbergh, England's Book Town, from where you can follow brown tourist signs to Farfield Mill.
Taking the A684 from Hawes (15 miles), Farfield Mill's entrance is on the right. Just follow the brown tourist signs.
From Kirkby Lonsdale:
Head north on the A683, follow signs to Sedbergh from where you will pick up brown tourist signs to Farfield Mill.
FREE Parking facilities are available for cars and coaches. If you plan to arrive by coach or minibus, please notify Farfield Mill in advance to arrange set-aside parking.
Please do not use your SAT NAV when trying to locate us, due to the rural postcode you will be sent down a very narrow road on the wrong side of the river. Once in Sedbergh follow the brown signs.
